Boeing is using NVIS headwear to investigate newly emerging technologies and determine which are of high value and could be considered for implementation into a variety of products such as future commercial flight decks.
Boeing Research & Technology conducted a study to evaluate whether it is feasible to replace the standard head-up display (HUD) optics with see-through head-mounted display (HMD) intended for use in a commercial flight deck. The NVIS nVisor ST in its see-through mode, and combined with an optical head-tracker, was integrated into a flight simulator so that the pilot flying the simulator would be presented with HUD symbology in the nVisor’s displays. This condition was compared against the use of a traditional optical HUD installed in the same simulator.
